DANZANDO MEMORIE SUL MARE // Pesaro 2024 Capitale Italiana della Cultura

The body, as much in its individual dimension as in the experience of the collective, constitutes the first and wisest means of relating to the world. From this, in an aesthetic process understood in its broadest sense, the body gathers knowledge, awareness, communicative capacity and self-narrative. Dance is the practice through which the body is able to translate this consciousness into its highest form, telling, sublimating, celebrating life in its most human and profound facets and meanings. This connection is most discernible in the many forms of traditional dance: celebrations of the passing of time and seasons, expressions of the relationship with nature and between human beings, dances of toil, labor, struggle and pain, serenity, magical and ritual or expressive and identifying.

The project DANZANDO MEMORIE SUL MARE defines its trajectory of development from the inspirations and memories coming from the rich vocabulary of the Marche's musical funds, real libraries that testify to traditions and customs, which become, in practices and public meetings in dialogue with local communities, an opportunity to reformulate and reinterpret tradition to the future. Retracing the experience of these forms today is an opportunity to reconnect with that wise root from which we all come and re-inform bodies about their own history and sense of identity today, reconnecting past and present seamlessly.

The entire course of the project follows a trajectory of research and practice connected to the experience of movement and as a cognitive medium around themes of belonging and memory and a bridge between generations.

The practice of movement as a tool for investigation and a space for relationship and personal expression becomes, in this context of dialogue between territories and traditions, a viaticum of a culture of proximity as an investment in the quality of life of the person, in the support and enhancement of cultures and uniqueness, fostering awareness about individual, civic, and social identities. The emotional and physical body is revealed as a living archive of experiences. The relationship between bodies, between differences through the practice of movement, which urges listening to the self and connecting with the other, is capable of generating new narratives to which communities can adhere by enacting heterophilic and inclusive processes of collaboration.
